-sudhakaran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president K Sudhakaran wants a by-election in the Devikulam constituency. He has forwarded a letter asking the election commission to look into the issue. The High Court recently made A Raja, the CPM MLA ineligible after founding out the seat was specially reserved for members of scheduled caste.

Raja was given 10 days to approach the supreme court to overturn the high court decision. The CPM leader meanwhile filed a plea but Sudhakaran insists on the election commission to adopt section 107, representation of peoples ACT to move ahead with conducting an election upholding the high court decision.

While giving nomination for the election, Raja was a baptized Christian which makes him ineligible to contest. Meanwhile, in the plea filed in the supreme court, Raja points out his tribe as nomads who trudged the high range and got settled in the 1950s. He also pointed out his marriage ceremony which was conducted conforming to Hindu rituals.
