KOLLAM: 18 circumstantial pieces of evidence were crucial in the beautician Suchitra murder case. The prosecution ensured punishment for the accused by unequivocally asserting these evidences before the court. The court sentenced accused Prashant Nambiar to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakhs.
The accused had deleted his social media accounts and his chats with the murdered woman. He also completely destroyed Suchitra's mobile phone. The investigation team, however, managed to recover the chats of the woman from the cloud with the help of cyber forensic experts. This proved to be crucial in the investigation.
The investigation team also found WhatsApp chats that showed that the accused tried to take the woman to Palakkad after luring her. Sources said that Suchitra was last seen wearing a black dress. According to the investigation team, the WhatsApp chat shows that the woman wore the black dress as per the instructions of the accused.
Thrikkovilvattom native Suchitra Pillai was a friend of Prashant Nambiar's wife. The accused became close with her over the phone and embezzled Rs 2 and a half lakhs from her. Suchitra, a divorced woman, had asked the accused to provide her with a baby through artificial insemination. Prashant Nambiar, who felt that this would affect his family life, took the woman to a rented house in Palakkad and killed her by hitting her head against the wall and tying the emergency light cable around her neck. He then chopped the body into pieces and buried it in an empty field nearby. Suchitra who left her home in Kollam on March 17, 2020, last contacted her family on March 20. Later, the Kottiyam police launched an investigation after her family lodged a missing complaint.
