AI camera functioning well but collection of fines stalled; challan delivery may be delayed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Delay in the collection of fines even after AI cameras installed to detect traffic violations have started functioning. The delay in the collection of fines is due to a technical glitch in sending the challan.

AI cameras on roads in the state are operational since yesterday. The camera detected 38,520 violations in 12 hours. It was earlier informed that penalty notices will be sent from today. However, a glitch in the ITMS software of the National Informatics Center (NIC) hampered the sending of fines. It is reported that the server failure that happened yesterday afternoon has not yet been resolved.

Keltron and the Department of Motor Vehicles jointly detect violations through AI cameras and levy fines. Violations recorded by the camera will be ascertained by the Department of Motor Vehicles and then forwarded to Keltron officials. Keltron relies on a server in Delhi to create challan. The challan will be registered and sent back to Keltron's server by NIC and will then be sent to the vehicle owners by post. Sending of SMS regarding violation of law through the Parivahan site has also been interrupted. The reports are that the motor vehicle department brought the server failure to the attention of the NIC.
