KANNUR: Four local CPM leaders have been expelled from the party following allegations of black money transactions through online trading. Peringome Local Committee member A Akhil, Thirumeni Local Committee member Xavier Paul, Padiyottuchal Local Committee member Ramsha Ramachandran and Branch member K Sakesh were expelled.
It is alleged that they did cryptocurrency transactions with the son of Kerala Congress (Mani) leader Joyce Puthanpurakkal. It is suspected that a transaction of around Rs.30 lakhs took place. The incident came to light following a difference of opinion regarding the distribution of money. Following this, Joyce lodged a complaint with CPM state secretary MV Govindan. The complaint alleged that the car accident of Joyce's son two months ago was pre-planned and that some CPM leaders were involved. MV Govindan then forwarded the complaint to the CPM district committee. The subsequent investigation found that the financial transaction had taken place. The Peringome area committee will meet tomorrow under the leadership of the CPM district secretary to discuss the issue.
Meanwhile, DCC president Martin George demanded that the black money transaction of crores should be investigated by a central agency and not confined to CPM.
