Shamseer should tender apology for mistake, NSS toughens stance against Speaker

KOTTAYAM: NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair said the statement of Speaker A N Shamseer is fixed firmly to the heart of the Hindus and there is no compromise for it. He was talking to the media ahead of the NSS observing today as a day of protection of belief. He told the media that someone who is holding a top post of the government and the Speaker of the Assembly has insulted God.

‘There is no way for a compromise. If a member of a particular community tries to dishonor the God we worship with such contempt and vileness by focusing on only one sect, then this would be the beginning of the fact that they will face uncompromising opposition to it. All Hindu organizations like BJP and RSS have come forward against the speaker's remarks. The NSS have also decided to work jointly with them.

NSS was in the forefront for the success over the Sabarimala issue. Similarly, in this issue also the NSS will be in the front to protest. We have not said that the Speaker should resign. We said that a representative of the people's representatives is not entitled to continue in that post for speaking so badly. He should tender an apology to the Hindu believers. If not, the government should respect the sentiments of the Hindu people and take further steps. He should apologize to the Hindus by admitting that he had committed a mistake. What about other religions? Science should not be imposed only on Lord Ganesha. We do not owe an answer to A K Balan,’ clarified NSS General Secretary.

The NSS is observing Faith Protection Day as part of the protest against the Speaker's remarks. The Speaker’s remarks that Lord Ganesha was a myth that lacks a scientific base have pained the faithful. Nair had earlier said that such statements are not suitable for anyone who believes in democracy.
