KOCHI: A plea has been filed in the Kerala High Court seeking quashing of the 2023 state film awards. The plea was filed by Lijeesh Mullezhath, the director of the film 'Akashathinu Thazhe’. It is alleged in the plea that there was nepotism in the selection of the awards.
The jury members themselves had revealed about the interference in the selection of the awards. Vinayan, the director of Pathonpatham Noottandu, had also released some evidence. Vinayan alleged that Ranjith, chairman of the film academy, intervened against awarding his film. There was nepotism and interference on the part of the academy chairman in the selection of awards and this is illegal. The plea stated that the announcement of the award should be cancelled as evidences have been exposed. It is hinted that the high court may consider the plea tomorrow.
However, Minister Saji Cherian had opined that there was no interference in the selection of the award and that Ranjith is a great director.
