THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With Onam around the corner, the railway has decided to regularise two special trains connecting Kerala.
The Railway Board has approved Ernakulam- Velankanni biweekly and Kollam- Tirupati biweekly trains to run permanently. Palakkad- Tirunelveli Palaruvi Express will be extended to Thoothukudi.
Ernakulam-Velankanni biweekly service runs from Ernakulam on Mondays and Saturdays. The return journey will be on Tuesdays and Sundays. 16361 will be the new train number. The train will start its journey at 12:35 pm from Ernakulam and will reach Velankanni the next morning at 5:50 am. At 6:30 pm, the return journey will be made on train number 16362 and the expected arrival at Ernakulam is at 12 pm, the next noon.
Tirupati-Kollam biweekly services run on Tuesdays and Fridays and vice-versa on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The train will leave Tirupati at 2.40 pm and reach Kollam at 6.20 the next day. The return train will leave Kollam at 10 am and reach Tirupati at 3.20 pm.
Railways will soon announce the date of commencement of these changed services. It has also been decided to run a special train service from Nagercoil to Kottayam and to Panavel via Konkan during the Onam season.
Meanwhile, the timings of Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express will be changed from Sunday. The train will depart from Alappuzha at 3.50 am. It will reach Ernakulam by 5.20 am and Shornur by 7.47 am.
