THIRUVANANANTHAPURAM: The water level in dams in Kerala has risen due to heavy rains for the past few days. Water levels in small dams have risen dangerously. In large dams, water level is only below the half level. Water has reached half level in the medium dams.

Due to heavy rains, the water level in Pamba, Achankovil and Manimala rivers has risen. Water levels have also risen in Periyar and Muvattupuzha rivers. The Central Water Commission has issued an orange alert for Manimala and Pamba rivers in Pathanamthitta. The water level has risen to the point where all the small dams are full. An orange alert has been issued at Palakkad's Mangalam Dam. All the 15 shutters of Boothathankettu are opened and water is flowing out.

Small dams like Lower Periyar, Neryamangalam and Peringal dams are almost full. At medium dams like Kuttyadi and Ponmudi, water has gone beyond half level. At the same time, the water in the big dams like Idukki, Edamalayar, Sholayar, Kakki and Kundala has not reached even half level.
