BENGALURU: The Vikram lander of Chandrayaan first touched the moon's surface making the whole of India go elan. The exact position where the lander made its first touch will be henceforth known as ‘ShivaShakti’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this while addressing scientists at ISTRAC campus in Bengaluru.

“Shiva is the symbol of the goodness of mankind. Shakti in the name Shivashakti implies hard work, inspiration, and empowerment of women, and here the real 'Shakthis' are our women scientists,” said PM Modi.

He also clarified that the place on the lunar surface where Chandrayaan-2 crash landed will be known as 'Tiranga Point'. PM also declared August 23 as Space Day for India and it will be celebrated in the coming years.

“While Chandrayaan made the soft landing, I was away in South Africa, but my mind was fixed here among you. ISRO made the whole nation proud. The world is talking big about our work. It is an unbelievable feat achieved. I salute all of you for your yeoman work over the years.” PM Modi said while addressing the scientist.
