Depressed over not getting degree certificate, 22-year-old girl ends life

KOLLAM: A woman was found dead on the terrace of her house in Kundara. The dead is Surya (22), daughter of N Jayakrishna Pillai of Nandanam at Ilamballoor Veluthampi Nagar and Remadevi Amma.

The incident happened last evening at 7 pm. She slit her throat using a curry knife. When the family came to the terrace after hearing a noise, they saw her lying in a pool of blood. She was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital but her life could not be saved. Police said a suicide note was recovered from her room. Police said Surya was in depression for quite some time. Her mother had scolded her yesterday after her gold studs went missing. Surya was also very upset as she had not yet obtained the degree certificate applied weeks ago.


Surya had privately completed her degree course. The police said that while watching TV with her family last night, she went to the kitchen took a knife and then went to the terrace. Police found the blood-stained knife from near the staircase to the terrace. The Kundara police said in her suicide note she had mentioned that she is taking her life for not getting the degree certificate and that no one else is responsible for her death.


The body has been shifted to the mortuary of a private hospital in Kundara for post-mortem. Kundara police registered a case of unnatural death in the incident. Aishwarya is her sister.

The police led by Rural SP M L Sunil, DySP S Sherif, Kundara sub inspector B Anish and sub inspector A Anish reached her house and took further steps.
