Rains to intensify from today; threat of cyclone and low pressure, yellow alert in nine districts tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a warning that rains will intensify in the state from today. The central meteorological department has informed that from today till September 30, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Kerala and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour. Cyclone will form in Andaman Sea day after tomorrow. It will then turn into low pressure within 24 hours. The rain will intensify as a result of this. Yellow alert has been sounded in various districts from tomorrow till September 30.

As yellow alert has been issued in Kerala in the coming days, the meteorological department has warned that special caution should be exercised in the hilly areas where there is a possibility of heavy rainfall.

Warning of thunderstorms
Move indoors immediately at the first sign of lightning. Staying in open areas increases the chance of being struck by lightning.

Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms. Stay away from doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.

Unplug household appliances. Avoid proximity to electrical equipment during thunderstorms.

Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. Can use a mobile phone.

Avoid playing outdoors and on terraces if the weather is cloudy.

Do not stand under trees during thunderstorms. Do not park vehicles under trees.

Stay inside the vehicle during thunderstorms. Don't put your legs out. You will be safe inside the vehicle. Avoid traveling on vehicles like bicycles, bikes, tractors during thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe building until the thunderstorm ends.
