Woman robbed of Rs 6,61,600 by fake online trading scam through Telegram app

KANNUR: A woman from Mavilayi was robbed of Rs 6,61,600 after scammers made her believe that she would earn a lot of money through online trading. Kannur town police have registered a case on the woman's complaint.

The fraudsters sent the message to the woman's phone through the Telegram app with a link to Google Maps. She was asked to rate a few places as per the instructions of the fraudsters. They transferred money into the woman's account after she rated the places on Google Maps. After gaining her trust they convinced her that she make more money through online trading.

Subsequently, the woman sent Rs 6,61,600 several times to the bank account provided by the fraudsters. A trading app was also introduced through the Telegram app for conducting trades. They even gave instructions to the woman on how to trade using the app.

The woman came to know about the scam and filed a complaint when she was told that the task was finally completed and that if she wanted to get the money back, she had to send four lakh rupees to increase her credit score.
