THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is likely to receive heavy rain for the next three days. The rains are intensifying as the cyclonic circulation between Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu has strengthened. Southern districts received heavy rain yesterday. This will continue in the coming days.
Pathanamthitta received 210 mm of rain in two hours on Wednesday. Experts are not ruling out the possibility of a light cloudburst here. There was a landslide at Kottathatti Mala in Kozhencherry. There was extensive damage to crops due to flash floods caused by landslides in Chenneerkara. There was waterlogging on the Pathanamthitta-Tihruvalla road, Punalur-Muvattupuzha road and at Konni, Vakayar and Koodal. A flash flood was reported in the Chuzhilikode area.
A red alert was announced in Pathanamthitta district on Wednesday. Heavy rains lashed Sabarimala temple and forest regions. Trees and soil fell on the road on the Kumily-Munnar road in Idukki, disrupting traffic. Heavy waterlogging has formed near the Kumily suspension bridge. Neyyatinkara, Nedumangad and hilly areas of the capital district also received heavy rains on Wednesday.
Alerts on Thursday
Although the state is likely to receive heavy rain, only a yellow alert has been issued on Thursday. A yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki and Wayanad districts. t
Ponmudi closed
Ponmudi Eco Tourism Center has been closed due to heavy rains. Public access to hilly and coastal tourist spots is also prohibited.
