KANNUR: A case has been filed against people including cricketer Sreesanth for extorting Rs 18 lakh after promising a villa at Uduppi in Karnataka. The town police registered the case as per the directive of the court on the complaint of Balagopal, a native of Kannapuram.

The complaint said Rajeev Kumar and Venkatesh Kini, whom he met in Kollur in 2019, accepted the money. The money was accepted saying that he would be given a villa constructed in five cents of land. When the villa was not given, the reply given was that a cricket project is being started for Sreesanth in that place. Sreesanth later met the complainant and promised him a villa as part of his project, the complaint said.

The complainant said that he filed a plea at the Kannur First Class Magistrate after no action was taken. Meantime, Sreesanth’s advocate said the complaint is fake and that he has not accepted any money.
