THIRUVANTHAPURAM: An accused fled from the court just before the verdict was to be announced in a murder case, to consume liquor. He fled after telling his lawyer that he will return after breaking a coconut in the temple. The court directed to arrest and produce him. When the verdict was passed in the case today, the court sentenced Baiju, a resident of Pothencode to 17 and a half years of rigorous imprisonment.

The verdict is that of Thiruvananthapuram additional sessions court judge K Vishnu. He was found guilty for killing Ibrahim of Pothencode, a businessman, on June 17, 2022. The case is that the accused, who was under the influence of alcohol, argued without paying the bill for the things he purchased from Ibrahim’s shop. Ibrahim finally intervened and an altercation over this ended in the murder.

When the judge was about to call the case after completion of the trial and to pronounce his verdict, came to know that he has fled from the court. However, the lawyer told the court that he had gone to the temple. Even when the case was considered twice later, the accused did not appear.

With this, the court ordered to arrest him. When the police came to his house to arrest and produce him, he was in an inebriated condition. He told police that he went to consume liquor before the verdict.
