HYDERABAD: The annual expenditure on welfare schemes was around Rs 52,000 crore. Still K Chandrasekhara Rao fell. The main reason for the backlash is that KCR, who emerged as a leader through the popular agitation for the formation of Telangana, later distanced himself from the people. After becoming the Chief Minister for the second time, he was not ready to meet the common people. People began to feel that the allegation that KCR was ruling like a King was true. His son KT Rama Rao and daughter K Kavita, who studied in America, did not find acceptance among the common people.
When he got power for the second time, KCR wanted the post of Prime Minister. He forgot the Telugu soil that made him who he is. In 2022, 21 years after the formation of the party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi was changed into the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi. KCR was one of the first opposition leaders to float the idea of an anti-Modi alliance but he did not want to include the Congress in that alliance. Apart from non-Congress chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, MK Stalin and Mamata Banerjee, he held talks with opposition leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Uddhav Thackeray. The goal was a federal front without Congress. This failed massively. People also alienated KCR who replaced Telangana with the map of India even in the party flag.
The crisis escalated when allegations of corruption were levelled against his son KT Rama Rao and daughter K Kavita. Criticism of the BJP has softened. With his daughter K Kavita being involved in the Delhi liquor policy corruption case, he also distanced himself from the 'India' front to please the BJP. KCR will have to come up with a new strategy if he wants to enter national politics.
