‘Shehna was devastated hearing Ruwais’ reply, she couldn’t bear it’, say friends

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr Shehna, a post graduate student of medical college, was very upset and devasted on Dr Ruwais’ stand for not opposing his family’s huge dowry demand, said her friends. They said she was very depressed after her marriage was cancelled. It was something she could not bear. They responded soon after Dr Ruwais was taken into custody and arrested in the suicide of Shehna.

Their words
The two were in a relationship, but we heard that the marriage has been cancelled after the families proceeded with the marriage proposal. Shehna was shaken. We just saw it as a breakup of a relationship. She also told us in that way and we didn't know that dowry was behind it.

Shehana took leave for a few days and then joined us. She was found normal after coming back and spoke to all of us. She used to come out with us. However, she was very disturbed. Later, when we talked to her family, we came to know about the dowry issue.

A stand was taken by both sides to convince their families. Shehna was very upset and could not bear after Ruwais failed to oppose his parents’ dowry demand. In the beginning, Shehna did not tell us about the dowry.

Meantime, the arrest of Dr Ruwais taken into custody, has been registered. The police said Shehna committed suicide after her marriage was called off as her family could not fulfill the huge demand of dowry. His arrest was registered after chats on dowry were found to have been deleted.

The health department had informed that Dr Ruwais has been suspended. Health Minister Veena George said this is a serious issue and it cannot be accepted in any way. She had directed the director of medical education department and the director of women and child development department to investigate the incident and take strict action. Based on this, the principal suspended the doctor of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
