'One last visit to capital city'; Public homage begins at P S Memorial

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mortal remains of late CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran reached Thiruvananthapuram by 11 am on Saturday. It was through the support of an air ambulance that Kanam’s dead body was brought to Thiruvananthapuram from Kochi. A public darshan will be held at the Pattom PS memorial till 2 pm on Saturday. Later in the afternoon, Kanam will have his final journey to his hometown in Vazhoor, Kottayam. The funeral procession will pass through the roads with a chance for the public to pay homage.

After the public darshan at the CPI district council office, the body will be brought to the house in Vazhoor. Kanam who was suffering from diabetes diabetes-related ailment had a heart attack on Friday evening while being at treatment at a private hospital in Kochi. Due to diabetes-related issues, on November 14, Kanam’s right leg was amputated.

The CPI strongman just months before quit active politics to take care of his health. However, his sudden death quieted the communist leaders in the state and the void left will be irreplaceable in the distant future.
