MELBOURNE: Australia made an impressive start against Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test match reaching 187 for three before rain interrupted play on first day after just 66 overs.

In the third over, Abdullah Shafiq fell to the ground attempting an easy catch slip by David Warner off Shaheen Shah Afridi's bowling. However, Warner (38) failed to use this opportunity and lost his wicket.

Usman Khawaja (42) and Steven Smith (26) were the other notable wickets that fell for Australia taken by Agha Salman, Hasan Ali and Amir Jamal for Pakistan. At the halt on the first day, Marnus Labuschagne scored 44 runs while Travis Head remained unbeaten on nine runs. Australia leads (1-0) after securing victory in the first match of the three-game series.
