KANNUR: Igniting their tussle with the Governor, SFI burnt a 30-feet tall effigy of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan at Payyambalam beach on New Year’s Eve.

Accusing the governor of saffronising the universities in Kerala, SFI looks to ignite a ferocious row of protest against the leader. This protest will mark the continuation of the earlier black flag-waving protest and the Calicut University blockade which turned intense and was covered big in media.

Interestingly, some days back, SFI were flummoxed after the Governor changed his usual route to the airport and travelled another way evading a strong protest from SFI cadres, who were unknowingly stationed at the usual route waiting for the Governor’s vehicle.

The Governor responded that the route to the airport is decided by the police and he has nothing to do with it. He asked protestors to continue their shenanigans but warned them to avoid coming near his vehicle or else see a similar response that he did at Thiruvananthapuram’s Pettah.

SFI's protest took place on the Palayam-General Hospital road, which is the regular route of the Governor. Activists protested with the banner 'Fearless 53' at General Hospital Junction.
