Youth Congress stages statewide protests against Rahul Mamkootathil's arrest; conflicts at many places

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Youth Congress staged a state-wide protest against the arrest of its state president Rahul Mamkootathil. Clashes broke out between Youth Congress activists and the police at many places during the protest demonstrations. Many people, including women leaders, participated in the demonstrations.

Youth Congress workers staged a protest before the Thiruvananthapuram Fort Hospital when Rahul Mamkootathil was brought to the hospital for a medical examination following his arrest. The activists, who stopped the police vehicle, were later removed by force.

A clash broke out in Palakkad after the police blocked the Youth Congress workers who were holding a demonstration towards the Palakkad South police station. The police then arrested the workers and moved them from the spot. The Youth Congress also staged a protest in Adoor in Pathanamthitta. Protests were also held in Kollam and Kannur. The police arrested and removed the activists who besieged the national highway in Kannur. In Kozhikode, the Commissioner's office was besieged under the leadership of the Youth Congress Kozhikode District Committee. The activists, who besieged the MC Road in Thirunakkara in Kottayam, were arrested and removed from the spot.

The effigy of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was burnt in Malappuram. In Alappuzha, the Collectorate march held by the Youth Congress ended in a clash with the police. The clash broke out after the police stopped the Youth Congress from burning the effigy of the Chief Minister.
