CHANDIGARH: Due to the negligence of hospital authorities, a woman gave birth to a baby in a vegetable cart outside the hospital in a cold winter evening. The shocking incident took place yesterday near a government-run hospital in Ambala in Haryana.
The woman, a native of Mohali in Punjab, was in severe labour pain and was rushed to the hospital by her husband. The husband requested the doctor and the hospital staff for help but they weren't even ready to bring a stretcher. Meanwhile, the woman gave birth in the open, in a vegetable cart on the street.
"It was God who saved them. I considered doctors and hospital staff as God. But after last night's events, I have lost faith in these hospital staff," the woman's husband told the media.
After the news spread in the media, the hospital authorities took the mother and the baby inside and admitted them in a ward.
The state health minister Anil Vij said there will be a thorough investigation in the incident and the guilty will be punished.
"This information has to be checked. We provide ambulances and free delivery service. So whether they were informed or not – I will get everything investigated. If there has been any negligence, action will be taken," Mr Vij said.
Medical officer Sangeeta Singla said that an investigation will be conducted from the side of the hospital and action will be taken if the doctor and nurse are found guilty.
