Kerala Blasters dominate Kalinga Super Cup Opener, defeat Shillong Lajong FC 3-1

BHUBANESWAR: Kerala Blasters kicked off the new year triumphantly in the Kalinga Super Cup securing a commanding 3-1 victory against Shillong Lajong FC in a Group B showdown. Kwame Pepra's brace and Mohammad Ayman's goal propelled Blasters to an impressive win.

Blasters showcased an aggressive style of play, consistently pressuring the opposition's defense with their attacking football. Dimitri Diamantakos led the team in the absence of Marko Leskovic showcasing exceptional leadership.

Shillong Lajong managed a solitary response in the 28th minute when Sachin Suresh fouled Lajong striker Karim in the box resulting in a penalty. Skipper Renan Paulinho successfully converted the penalty beating Sachin Suresh effortlessly.

Kwame Pepra's stellar performance earned him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match for his remarkable double goal achievement. Kerala Blasters' upcoming matches in the group stage are against Jamshedpur FC and North East United.

The ongoing Super Cup features 12 teams from the Indian Super League (ISL) and four teams from the I-League, divided into four groups. Group winners will advance to the semi-finals with the ultimate victors earning a spot in the AFC Champions League. Notably, Odisha FC currently holds the championship title.
