ALAPPUZHA: Around 25 persons accused in various criminal cases participated in a celebration in Alappuzha's Kattoor. This includes those deported under KAAPA Act and accused in drug trafficking cases. The police intelligence department came to know about their participation in the celebration only after the pictures and video came out.

The gang came to attend a celebration at a close friend's family. All of them are wanted in various cases like quotation, attempted murder, assault, drug trafficking in Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts. Accused in political attack cases are also among these. There was also a person accused in a KAAPA case, who is called after a bird, and the Kayamkulam native who is accused in cases like attack on Kayamkulam hospital, attack on boat race participants and attack on people who protested against Vanakerala bus. The gang also participated in another celebration near Cherthala.

It is a serious failure that the intelligence department could not find out about this. The police have identified all the participants except two. A detailed investigation has been started in this regard. Last year, as part of a friend's birthday celebration, gangs from Kochi had gathered on a houseboat in Alappuzha. The police came to know about it when they had an argument while returning from the celebration.
