Four teachers suspended for smuggling rice meant for midday meal scheme

MALAPPURAM: The Malappuram Deputy Director of Education has taken action against four teachers for smuggling rice meant for midday meals scheme in V H M Higher Secondary School Morayur. Headteacher D. Srikanth, physical education teacher Ravindran, midday meal in-charge Bhavneesh and Irshadali will face punitive action for the shameful act committed.

The fraud came to light only after a video surfaced showing the rice bags being covertly transported from the school in a private vehicle. Later, DDE's inspection confirmed rice smuggling and resale. The officer in charge of the mid-day meal visited the school and conducted an inspection. It was found that the rice was transported to a shop in Kondotty. The Morayur panchayat member K. Asainar had filed a complaint with the Chief Minister and the Education Minister, demanding action.

V. Ramesan, a member of the State Food Commission, informed that the case will be investigated voluntarily. Meanwhile, the school authorities denied having any knowledge of the video and said that the food supply in the school was accurate.
