THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition staged a protest in the legislative assembly after permission was denied for the adjournment motion in the SFIO probe against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena Vijayan. The opposition entered the well of the House and raised a banner in protest after the Speaker said that it was not possible to grant permission to the adjournment motion as per the rules. Later, the opposition went out of the House by boycotting the assembly session.

The opposition moved the adjournment motion after the Question and Answer session started in the assembly. The Speaker clarified that permission cannot be granted to the adjournment motion under Rule 53. The Speaker dismissed the adjournment motion stating that as per the rule, a matter pending before court cannot be considered by the House.

Speaking to the media, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was not fit to continue in his position as there were serious allegations against him.

"When we brought the matter in the assembly today, he absconded from it. It was the members of the ruling party who shouted in the House. In fact, they were the ones who obstructed today's proceedings in the House. They are saying that no one should protest against the Chief Minister in the state, on the roads or in the assembly," Satheesan said.
