NEW DELHI: The Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the UCC (Uniform Civil Code) Bill at the Cabinet meeting on Sunday. The bill will be tabled in the Uttarakhand Assembly on Monday or Tuesday. A special four-day session of the Uttarakhand assembly will be held from February 5-8. In the 70-member Assembly, BJP has 47 members and is likely to pass the bill without much hiccups.
The UCC drafting committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, submitted the 740-page draft to Chief Minister Dhami on Friday.
If implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country after Independence to adopt the UCC.
