Mundakayam native moves court to get back dead body of live-in partner

highcourt

KOCHI: A Mundakayam native filed a petition in the High Court to get back the dead body of his live-in partner from a private hospital mortuary. The young man belonging to the LGBTQAI community approached the court after he failed to pay the hospital bill of 1.30 lakh rupees immediately. The court directed to send notice through e-mail to the private hospital where the dead body is kept. Justice Devan Ramachandran will consider the petition on Tuesday.

In the petition, it is said that the young man’s partner got seriously injured after falling from a flat on the morning of February 3 and died on February 4. Both of them have been living together for the past six years.

The person was first shifted to Kalamassery Medical College after the accident but was later moved to a private hospital where the death happened. In the petition, it is said that the hospital authorities relented to release the body even after the victim’s relatives reached the spot.

The petitioner is a daily wage labourer and said he could at best pay Rs 30,000 now and asked the court to intervene in the issue. The petition asked the court to direct the collector to order the release of the dead body at the earliest.
