ISLAMABAD: The counting of votes in Pakistan is moving slowly. A ban on internet has affected the counting of votes. The official result is likely to be delayed. There is heavy security across the country in view of the possibility of an attack. The initial poll results are in favour of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The PTI activists have started celebrations. There are reports that Imran Khan has said that the opponents should accept the mandate. Imran's faction alleged that the opponents and the army are trying to subvert the results.

Meantime, former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) president Nawaz Sharif's party won two constituencies. Sharif is the prime ministerial candidate. The survey results mentioned that Sharif will become the Prime Minister of the country for the fourth time. Sharif has also the support of the army. He had earlier announced that he would restore the economically, socially and politically devastated Pakistan once he assumes power.
In 2018, Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a corruption case. The court later allowed Sharif to go to London for treatment in 2019. 73-year-old Sharif returned to Pakistan in October after a gap of four years. Sharif was acquitted of two corruption cases.
