HARIPAD: Doctor died due to delayed treatment due to culvert built in front of house as part of national highway construction. Ophthalmologist Dr. Cherian Philip (Jolly-77), son of P Philip and Thangamma Philip, died.

He had a heart attack on Wednesday night. Nephew Philipos Mathew, who lives next door and his relatives tried to get Cherian Philip to the road but could not because of the high culvert and the girder beyond.

After a lot of work, it was almost half an hour late by the time he was put on the chair and brought to the road above the stream. He was taken to a private hospital in Danappady but could not be saved. He worked as secretary of IMA Haripad branch for a long time.

The car has been parked at another house for more than a year as Cherian builds a high rise in front of Philip's house. As a huge girder was thrown on the road, the travel facility was completely disrupted.

The doctor was undergoing dialysis three times a week due to kidney disease. Even in those days it was hard to go to the hospital. Relatives say that even though they informed the authorities several times that it was a sick house and that they should provide access to the vehicle, they did not pay attention.
