Beware of women visiting homes with bottle and piece of iron; warns Kerala Police

The Kerala Police has warned the public asking them to be careful at those coming to collect waste from houses. In a Facebook post shared by the police, it said that there have been many incidents reported in Kerala where people enter houses on the pretext of collecting scrap and then steal valuables.

Two or three women come with a bottle or a piece of iron. They keep this bottle or the piece of iron near the house or inside the compound. When one of them rings the bell, the other women will stand on either side of the house. When the person opens the door, she says that she has come to collect scrap and offers a good price for the old things dumped in the house.

The house owner later accompanies her to the back of the house or to the place where the old things are dumped. She starts interacting with him in a very good manner. The other two women use this opportunity to enter the house through the front or back and steal valuables. Police said this is the method they follow.

The post said that a similar incident happened in Thrissur the other day. They lost gold of 20 sovereigns. One should be vigilant when strangers come home. The post has asked to dial police on 112 in case of emergency.
