MANANTHAVADY: A watcher of wildlife protection samithi, who sustained serious injuries in the elephant attack at Kuruva Island, has died. Paul, the watcher was attacked Friday morning at 9 am. Paul came before a herd of elephants while going for work. He, was trampled to death by one of the elephants.
Paul sustained serious spine injuries in the attack. His colleagues took him to the hospital. He was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital after his condition worsened and died there.
A few days ago, a wild tusker released from Karnataka reached Mananthavady and trampled a middle-aged man to death at Padamala Panachi. The wild tusker Belur Magna (tuskless), which the Karnataka Forest Department released into the Molahalli forest on November 30, took the life of farmer Ajeesh near the tourist destination Kuruva Island.
The elephant had entered the Kerala border around 1 am. Reached Mananthavady at 3 am. When Ajeesh went to the road to call some workers at 7 am, saw the elephant. Ajeesh and others seeing the tusker ran for their lives. Ajeesh and Sanju, who was with him, jumped the gate of Jomon's compound and when trying to run Ajeesh fell down and immediately the elephant trampled him to death.
