THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Woman meets tragic end on the national highway near Kallambalam Azhamkonam junction from losing control of her scooter. The deceased was Sreelakshmi (28), daughter of late Vijayakumari and Gopinatha Kurup of Vaiga Land, Mullamangalam, Azhamkonam. Her husband Ranjulal and daughter Vaiga were injured. One-and-a-half-year-old daughter Naiga escaped unhurt.

They were returning home after seeing the festival at Keezhur Durga Bhagavathy temple. Their scooter lost control while giving side to the vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Sreelakshmi hit her neck on the roadside fencing and sustained deep injuries. Siyad, a native of Decent Mukku, took them to the hospital in a car, but Sreelakshmi could not be saved. After the post-mortem at Paripally Medical College Hospital, the body was cremated in the house yesterday evening. Ranjulal, an employee of a private company in Abu Dhabi, came home only a week ago.

Locals said that due to the darkness and potholes on the road as part of the development of the national highway, accidents are a continuing story in the area. It is alleged that the negligence and carelessness of the contractor are the cause of the accidents.
