THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister V Shivankutty has taken swift action to a controversial reference in the Plus One Humanities textbook,

The reference, which stated that communal reservation is a "communal scourge" and advocated for economic reservation instead, sparked outrage and concern.

Minister Shivankutty clarified that the opinion expressed in the textbook does not reflect the government's stance on reservation policies.

The error was brought to light by a news report from Kerala Kaumudi, prompting the government to address the issue promptly.

With parliamentary elections looming, the government recognized the potential negative impact on its image and among marginalized communities.

Upon learning of the issue, Minister Shivankutty immediately instructed the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to rectify the mistake without delay.

The controversial commentary, attributed to the Plus One Humanities textbook, has drawn criticism for its insensitivity and lack of alignment with constitutional principles.

Vellapalli Natesan, General Secretary of SNDP, condemned the reference as evidence of entrenched upper-class influence in governance, urging the government to counter such biases effectively.

The government's decisive action underscores its commitment to upholding inclusive and equitable educational standar Byds in the state.
