MUMBAI: Mumbai Press Club has penned a letter emphasizing the imperative of fostering safe and supportive newsroom environments. The letter highlights the severe pressures faced by media professionals in their line of work, which has sparked significant discussion.
Recently, a senior journalist collapsed and died in a Mumbai-based newspaper organization. Following this incident, the Press Club articulated its concerns in a letter addressed to the heads of media organizations nationwide. The letter underscores the undue strain placed on journalists, particularly photographers, to rapidly produce breaking news and critical stories, often to the detriment of their mental well-being.

"While it is the duty of media personnel to promptly and accurately deliver news to readers and audiences, subjecting them to public abuse and undue stress is unacceptable. Such circumstances not only jeopardize the mental health of media workers but also compromise the integrity of the news," reads an excerpt from the Press Club's letter.
