KOCHI: Police have arrested two Congress leaders, including Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan, over the protest in Kothamangalam on Monday. Ernakulam DCC president Muhammad Shiyas was also arrested. The two were arrested from Kothamangalam. A clash had occurred between the police and the Congress workers over the incident where an elderly woman was killed in a wild elephant attack in Neriamangalam. This has led to the arrest.
Under the leadership of Congress leaders and locals, a protest was held in the middle of the road in Kothamangalam with the dead body. Finally, the police used force and took the dead body away from the protest site in an ambulance.
The victim, 70-year-old Indira from Kanjiraveli, was attacked while harvesting arrowroot. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to Kothamangalam Hospital.
