'Manja Komban' killed Valsa, stepped on her chest, says eyewitness

elephant

THRISSUR: According to Rajan, the husband of deceased Valsa (62), she died in an attack by a wild elephant known as 'Manja Komban'. Rajan was also an eyewitness to the incident. The attack took place this evening while they were collecting forest resources. After knocking Valsa with his trunk, the elephant stepped on her chest. After the attack, the elephant did not go away immediately but retreated after staying there for a while before leaving.

Rajan, the tribal chief of Vachumaram Colony, and his wife Valsa went to the forest to collect forest resources. After collecting some nuts, he told his wife to get a stick to pound it. As soon as Valsa left for that, an elephant came running. After first knocking out Rajan, the animal attacked Valsa. Rajan said that the only elephant was there and it was a elephant regularly seen in the area. Valsa died after suffering injuries on her head.
