NEW DELHI: The Central Cabinet meeting decided to increase the dearness allowance of central government employees and the welfare benefits of pensioners by four per cent. 49.18 lakh employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners will benefit from this reform.
It will be increased to 4 per cent with a retrospective effect from January 1, 2024. With this, the exchequer will have an additional liability of 12,868.72 crores annually. The increment is as per the approved formula based on the 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations.
