Accident at Varkala floating bridge; two people in serious condition, fifteen people injured

varkala-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Accident on the floating bridge at Varkala beach. The handrail of the floating bridge collapsed due to the strong waves. 15 people including women and children were injured in the accident. Two of them are in critical condition.

Some people on the floating bridge fell into the sea due to the strong waves. Although they were wearing life jackets, they were unable to swim immediately because of the strong waves. Security personnel arrived and rescued those who fell into the sea and brought them to the shore. They were immediately taken to the hospital.

The District Tourism Promotion Council had prepared the 100-meter-long and three-meter-wide floating bridge from the coast to the sea. A limited number of visitors can walk up to a hundred meters across the bridge. From here they can get a view of the land. The bridge has been constructed by adding about 1400 plastic blocks on the strength of a specially made anchor weighing 700 kg.
