Gang, including police officer, abducts woman and threatens her at gunpoint for refusing marriage proposal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman who refused her friend's marriage proposal was abducted in a car. It has been alleged that a policeman was also in the group that threatened and harassed the woman using a gun. Five accused including Grade ASI Sudheer (40) of AR camp were arrested in the case. He has also been suspended from service.

Shyam Devadevan (42), a native of Parassuvakkal, Shanif (37), a native of Parassala, Shajila, a native of Pound Colony, and Arun (37), a native of Parassuvakal, are the other persons arrested by the Thiruvananthapuram Perurkada police.

The woman, who was living apart from her husband, and Shyam were friends. Later she ended his friendship with Shyam, but he regularly harassed her. There is a civil case between them in Nedumangad court.

Shyam's statement is that the woman was kidnapped in an attempt to settle their problems and get married. Last Thursday at 8.30 am, Shyam's friend Sudheer, came in police uniform and took her in a car saying that he wanted to question her in connection with a case.

He stopped the car on the way and took her in Shyam's car to a farmhouse in Tirunelveli. According to the woman's complaint, when she refused Shyam's request to live together, he threatened and harassed her with an air gun. The incident came to light when the woman's children complained that their mother has gone missing.
