Institution owner arrested after taking lakhs of rupees by running unrecognized diploma course

KOZHIKODE: The owner of an institute was arrested on the complaint of him running an unauthorized course and extorting huge amounts from the students. The arrested has been identified as Shyamjith, a native of Ernakulam, the owner of Global Institute of Paramedical Science in Kozhikode's Palayam. According to a complaint, he took lakhs of rupees from the students by running a fake course.

Diploma courses in dialysis technology and radiology were conducted in the institution under the false pretense that it was recognized by the health university. The fee was Rs 1.20 lakh. 65 students study in this institution for a three year course. Both the semester examinations were conducted. When the students approached the hospitals for internship with this certificate, they realized that it was not approved.

The students approached the institution demanding a refund of fees and certificates but no positive action was taken. After this this, a complaint was lodged with the police.
