Accused in sexual abuse case, close aide of Veerappan Raheem; atrocities of Mujeeb who killed Anu surface

KOZHIKODE: More shocking information is out in connection with the murder of Anu in Perambra. Mujeeb Rahman, who is in police custody, has been accused in many criminal cases before. He is the first accused in Mutheri sexual abuse case. The investigation reached to Mujeeb due to the similarities between the Mutheri case and Anu's murder.

The Mutheri sexual abuse case happened in September 2022. An elderly woman, who was on her way to work was taken into a stolen auto, tied her hands and feet, raped her and then stole her jewellery. Apart from this, Mujeeb has many cases in his name. Mujeeb's method is to roam around in the interior of various districts and then indulge in vehicle theft and extortion. He is a close aide of vehicle thief Veerappan Raheem.

Mujeeb had passed through the road where Anu was killed many times on the day of the incident. It is believed that he must have chosen the deserted road to commit theft or extortion. The accused came to Malappuram from Mattannur via Perambra on a stolen bike and entered the deserted road. He roamed around thrice along the Muliyangal-Valoor Ambalam road, where large vehicles do not pass. He reached here after 9 in the morning. In the meanwhile, he saw Anu walking in a hurry.

The accused took only ten minutes to get Anu on the bike, perform the task and steal the jewelry and escape. This will show how dangerous the accused is. After committing the crime, he put on his helmet and returned to the Ulliyeri side at 10 am. Mujeeb did not remove his helmet even once on reaching Edavannapara.

The suspect, who has a habit of committing the crime alone, was released from jail in last January. This method and CCTV footage helped the police to reach the accused after he turned on his mobile phone on reaching Malappuram. The police examined around 100 CCTV footages in connection with Anu's murder alone. It is being investigated whether the accused has committed more similar crimes.
