MUMBAI: Four Maoists, with a bounty of Rs 36 lakhs on their head, were killed on Tuesday morning in an encounter with the police in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli. The Maoists' clash was with the CRPF unit of the police.
On Monday afternoon, the police received information that some Maoists from Telangana had crossed the Pranhita river and reached Gadchiroli. During an inspection by the police, Maoists opened fire in the Kolamarka hills this morning.
Police said pamphlets and guns were seized from the deceased. The police identified the slain Maoists as Vargeesh and Magtu, secretaries of various Maoist committees, and platoon members Kursang Raju and Kudimetta Venkatesh.
