Lok Sabha polls: All three fronts intensify campaign works

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All three political fronts have intensified their campaign works in Kerala where Prime Minister Narendra Modi came for election-related programs more than once. With Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too arriving to contest in the state, the campaign heat will rise further.

The LDF had started campaigning before the election was announced. As all the parties in the front have already entered the fray by announcing their candidates, the Left Front has an edge in the campaign activities. After the election convention, the Left candidates in 20 constituencies have toured the constituencies thrice. A candidate tour has also been scheduled for the first week of next month.

On the other hand, the UDF's campaign activities were delayed by the uncertainties over the selection of candidates in Kannur, Alappuzha and Wayanad seats and the Muslim League's demand for an additional seat. Conventions of all 20 candidates are about to be completed. As the front is fielding sitting MPs in most constituencies except Vadakara, Alappuzha and Thrissur, it is confident of speeding things up.

The BJP candidates who were named in the first list published by the party have become active in campaign works. The party, however, has to announce its candidates in Kollam, Ernakulam, Alathur and Wayanad. All four candidates of BDJS, the constituent party of the BJP, have started campaign works. By the middle of the next month, the national leaders of all three fronts will come to the state for campaigning.
