THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CITU on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the Secretariat against Minister Ganesh Kumar, a member of the LDF government. CITU workers staged the protest against the recent driving reforms introduced by the Transport Department. Hundreds of workers, including women, participated in the strike.
CITU leaders, who participated in the strike, said that Ganesh Kumar should remember that he is the minister of LDF. They also said that if necessary, they would not hesitate to block the minister on the way and march towards his home.
The Transport Department had decided to implement the new driving reforms from May 1. However, the Chief Minister's office intervened after widespread protests arose against the Transport Department's decision. The trade unions had earlier said that they received an assurance from the government that the reforms would be implemented only after holding discussions with them. However, the Transport Minister said that he did not receive any such directions from the Chief Minister and that the Transport Department will proceed with the reforms as planned. This prompted the CITU to stage a protest against a member of the LDF government at the time of the Lok Sabha elections.
