Man dies in hospital after setting himself on fire in police station premises

PALAKKAD: A man who set himself ablaze at Alathur police station premises died while undergoing treatment in hospital. The deceased Rajesh (30), a native of Kavassery, attempted suicide in front of the Alathur police station on March 24. He poured kerosene on his body and set himself on fire. After extinguishing the fire, Rajesh was immediately admitted to Alathur taluk hospital with the help of the policemen and others present at the spot.

Rajesh, who suffered 95 percent burns, was later shifted to Thrissur Medical College Hospital for specialist treatment. He died today while undergoing treatment here. These incidents took place after a woman, who is a mother of two children, lodged a complaint and Rajesh was summoned to the station.

The complaint was later settled. However, Rajesh was dejected after being called to the station and did the extreme due to this.
