Sexual assault of eight-year-old girl; Court sentences accused to triple life sentence

KOCHI: The Ernakulam POCSO court sentenced the accused in the case of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl to triple life imprisonment. The court sentenced Sivan, a resident of Thoppumpadi. The court also directed that he should be imprisoned till death. Sivan assaulted the girl in May 2018. He was also an accused in another POCSO case while the trial was going on.

Another accused was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 70,000 in the case of assaulting a nine-year-old girl. If the fine is not paid, he will have to undergo an additional nine months of rigorous imprisonment. Adoor Fast Track Special Court Judge Donny Thomas Varghese sentenced Vishnu (Baiju). Special Prosecutor Adv. Smitha John P appeared. Victim Liaison Officer Smitha S coordinated the prosecution proceedings.
