KOZHIKODE: In a shocking incident, a gang of four robbed a retired doctor of Rs 6 lakh, a phone and a laptop after promising to arrange his remarriage. The incident took place in Kozhikode. The police have registered a case on the doctor's complaint.
The doctor, who retired from the Medical College, had been running a private clinic at the Wayanad border. It was a youth he met there who forced him to remarry. After talking several times, the doctor agreed to the marriage. Following this, the youth and his gang showed the doctor a woman brought from Kasargod. As the doctor liked the woman, the gang booked a room in a hotel near the Kozhikode railway station. Some people, who were introduced by the gang as relatives of the woman, also arrived there. Following this, the marriage was fixed and the 'groom and bride' were made to stay in two rooms at the hotel.
The gang then told the doctor that they would arrange a rented house in the city for him to stay with the woman after their marriage. Later, they said to him that they had arranged a house in Nadakkavu and asked him for an advance of Rs 6 lakhs to be given to the house owner. The doctor immediately handed over the money to the gang.
While going to visit the new house, the doctor handed over his bag containing a phone and a laptop to the group to enter a nearby place of worship. Upon returning, he found that the gang had left the spot. That was when he realised that the gang was cheating him. He then lodged a complaint with the police. Nadakkavu police have intensified the search for the accused.
