THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Residents of Koralamkuzhi in Kulathur woke up to the news of tragedy on Monday. It was the death of a youth, who was the breadwinner of a poor family, who died in bike racing. The screams of Suneesh's mother Prasobhana, who could not bear the tragic loss of her son, brought tears to the neighbours too.

Suneesh was seriously injured in an accident and died on the way to the hospital. He is a painting worker and also did tile works. Lately, he was also working in a roadside eatery near Thampuranmukku auto stand. He is called Unni by his family and locals.

Suneesh lived with his wife and daughter along with his parents and siblings in a small house on one and a half cents of land registered in his aunt's name. Ten members from two families live in this house. Suneesh's father Sunil is suffering from various ailments. Suneesh's family has sought the help of many people for a land and shelter. Every year, the family is named in the municipality's scheme for land and house, but in the end they will be rejected, Sunil says.

His plea is to get a place to sleep peacefully anywhere in Kerala. The death of his son, who was the only support, has dealt a heavy blow to the family.
