KOCHI: Electric scooters and bikes will be available in the city, similar to how bicycles can be rented at the Kochi metro station. Seiki Mobility, a Malayalee startup company, will open electric bike stations at Kalur Stadium, Marine Drive and Broadway in the first phase.

The service will commence on April 15. A similar scheme has been implemented in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Bhubaneswar. Food delivery people are also planning to rent out these vehicles. All vehicles do not require registration and no driving license is needed. All transactions are conducted through the Yulu app. All centers are automated, with no staff present. Simply download the app, scan the QR code, start and turn off the bike through the app. You will be able to see how much charge you have and how many kilometers you can travel from the app. If you notice the charge running low, you can return it to the nearest center and continue your journey with a new bike.

The initiative will commence operations with fifty Bajaj electric bikes on April 15. The bikes, app and batteries are all made in India. Fifty more bikes will be supplied according to demand. Rental fees start at 100 rupees, with a minimum charge of 100 rupees for the electric bike, usable for half an hour, and 140 rupees per hour thereafter. The full-day rental is priced at 500 rupees.
